Interior Air Safety & Purification

Medical School Anatomy Laboratory

Anatomy laboratories carry two hazards at once. Bodies carry pathogens. Formaldehyde carries its own irritation and long-term harm. Both are in the air the teaching staff and students breathe for hours at a time.

01 What it solves

The microbial problem in an anatomy laboratory is the same as in a mortuary: after death the body becomes a habitat for micro-organisms, with the heaviest loads at the mouth, nose, anus and skin, and even non-infectious bodies carry substantial pathogen populations. Body fluids and surfaces release them into the room.

The second problem is specific to teaching anatomy: formaldehyde. Its irritation and its long-term effect on dissection staff and students has been a persistent difficulty in these rooms, and it is a problem that ordinary room ventilation does not reliably solve.

02 What the solution includes

Redesigned airflow pattern

A top-supply, bottom-exhaust unidirectional arrangement — the supply comes from above, the extraction is connected under the dissection table, so contaminated air leaves at source instead of crossing the room.

Terminal supply hoods

A supply hood sits directly above each dissection table, delivering fresh air downward through the working zone.

Silent fans

Quiet supply and exhaust fans, because these rooms are used for teaching and background noise is part of the working environment.

Ion purification

An ion purification unit releases highly active ions into the room, which combine with pollutant molecules and oxidise them into carbon dioxide and water.

Climate control

Purified air conditioning holds temperature and humidity, which both extends ion life and makes the room comfortable for long sessions.

Sensor-driven operation

Sensors continuously monitor air quality, and the control system adjusts equipment operation from the readings it collects.

03 How it works

The system is designed around the direction air should travel, not around where equipment can conveniently be placed.

01

Supply from above

Fresh air is delivered through ductwork and a hood above each table, moving downward across the working zone.

02

Capture at the table

The dissection table exhausts downward, so vaporised pollutant is taken away before it can disperse.

03

Ionise

The purification host fills the room with active ions that break down remaining pollutants.

04

Condition

The purified air-conditioning unit holds temperature and humidity at levels that keep the room comfortable and the ions effective.

05

Monitor

Sensors read air quality continuously.

06

Adjust

The control system modulates the equipment from the sensor data, rather than running at a fixed setting.

04 Technical basis

05 Where it applies

The system is specified for teaching and research anatomy rooms, and for the pathology departments and hospital mortuaries that share the problem.

08 Questions buyers ask

How is this different from a funeral-home clean room?

The hazards overlap but the use does not. A teaching laboratory is occupied for long sessions by many people, so noise, comfort and formaldehyde control matter as much as pathogen containment. The airflow pattern is therefore arranged around the teaching tables.

Does ion purification replace filtration and extraction?

No. It complements them. Extraction removes contaminated air at source; filtration conditions the supply; the ion stage breaks down what remains in the room air.

Can it be retrofitted into an existing anatomy laboratory?

Often yes. The limiting factor is whether the exhaust can be routed downward from the tables and out of the building. That is established at survey stage.

What evidence do you provide for the installed performance?

Commissioned air-quality readings at the working positions and at the room level, measured after installation and balancing.
